This was my 2nd year in participating in the Kelby Worldwide Photowalk held on October 13th. This year I participated in the Photowalk in Santa Cruz, California.
The two walks were quite different, beyond the fact they were in different countries and on opposite sides of the continent. Last year much of the enjoyed benefit in the walk was moving through the time on the walk route as a group and talking with the other photographers; hearing their stories, seeing how they looked differently than I at similar scenes, sharing information and techniques, seeing a wide variety of compositions to images we all saw on the route.
This year, the group leader turned everyone loose to go their own way and meet up at the restaurant at the selected time for ending the walk for some social time. Photographers started leaving with those they knew or just seemed to disappear as others stopped to capture a scene only to discover they were alone when they finished shooting the scene.
It was an interesting difference that seems to elude this group (leader) as to the concept behind the photowalk event that Scott had started 5 years ago as stated in the FAQ section of the Photowalk web site…
Q. What is a Photo Walk?
A. It’s a social photography event where photographers get together (usually in a downtown area or trendy section of town) to walk around, shoot photos, and generally have fun with other photographers.
The testimonies of other Photowalks have started popping up and there were many encouraging experiences that photographers shared worldwide.
Here are some of my images from that early evening…
